Covered bonds regulations come into force

On 6 March 2008, the Regulated Covered Bonds Regulations 2008 (SI 2008/346) (the Regulations) came into force in the UK, and the FSA published final text for its Regulated Covered Bond Sourcebook, together with feedback on the legislative framework.

In July 2007, the FSA and HM Treasury jointly consulted on proposals for the implementation of a UK covered bonds legislative framework (see Legal update, Covered bonds: proposals for a UK recognised covered bonds legislative framework).

As a result of the consultation, the proposed framework was amended. The amendments were detailed in HM Treasury's feedback published on 14 February 2008, the same day that the Regulations were laid before Parliament (see Legal update, Final version of legislative framework for UK recognised covered bonds published).
