Created by the Pensions Act 2004, the Pension Protection Fund Ombudsman is empowered to:
Investigate complaints about maladministration by the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) (www.practicallaw.com/7-205-4059).
Consider applications from scheme members, trustees or employers relating to reviewable matters; for example, if the PPF decides during an assessment period (www.practicallaw.com/5-205-4060) to disapply certain scheme rules.
The Ombudsman's office will in due course by funded by a PPF Ombudsman levy (www.practicallaw.com/8-206-3987) on defined benefit schemes (www.practicallaw.com/0-107-7545) that may be eligible to receive compensation. To date, no PPF Ombudsman levy has been raised.
