Competition Minister Melanie Johnson announced on 14th January, 2003 that she had accepted undertakings from H+H Celcon in relation to its proposed acquisition of Marley Building Materials Limited (MBM). The undertakings prohibit H+H Celcon from acquiring the entire MBM business, while they do not prevent it from seeking to acquire only one production plant. This follows the Competition Commission report on 26th June, 2002, which concluded that the acquisition of the entire MBM business would significantly impair competition in the market for aircrete blocks.
